PATCH

MISSION PROFILE

The crew patch is presented in the form of an armillary sphere: an ancient device designed to determine the position of celestial bodies. In the center of the device, the Soyuz MS-07 spacecraft flying above the earth’s surface is depicted. The Moon depicted in the background symbolizes the future aspirations of human activity in space. At the top of the patch, the constellation Capricorn is depicted, with three larger stars symbolizing the members of the crew. Groups of two and three small stars represent the children of crew commander Anton Shkaplerov and American astronaut Scott Tingle.

COMMANDER REPLACEMENT

At a meeting of the state commission on March 14, 2017, Alexander Skvortsov was declared temporarily unfit for training as part of the crew for health reasons due to an injury sustained during a sports lesson. In this regard, on March 15, Anton Shkaplerov replaced him in the main crew of the ship. Sergey Prokopiev was appointed commander of the backup crew.

At the request of NASA, the launch of the Soyuz MS-07 spacecraft has been postponed from December 27 to December 17 so that the first operations in orbit do not coincide with the Christmas holidays. In this regard, docking with the station took place according to a two-day scheme.

LAUNCH

Soyuz MS-07 commander Anton Shkaplerov, former naval test pilot Scott D. Tingle and astronaut doctor Norishige Kanai endured temperatures below -10 °C (14 °F)at noon on Sunday as they boarded the spacecraft and took their places on top of 274 tons of propellant.

The Soyuz-FG rocket, 49.5 meters high, was launched from the Gagarin’s Start site at Baikonur at 07:21:01 UTC. Marking its 62nd success, Soyuz-FG launched the 7,200-kilogram spacecraft into a target 200-kilometer orbit in eight minutes and 48 seconds after launch.

DOCKING

After two days of rendezvous, the Soyuz MS-07 successfully docked with the orbital station at 08:39 UTC on December 19, 2017 in automatic mode.

The crew, after checking the tightness of the docking and equalizing the pressure between the spacecraft and the International Space Station, opened the transfer hatch and boarded the ISS. They were met by Russian cosmonaut Alexander Misurkin and American astronauts Mark T. Vande Hei and Joseph M. Acaba.

MISSION PROGRAM

Experiments

3 cargo ships were received as a part of the mission

DEORBIT

At 05:55 UTC the crew members of the ISS-54/55 long-term expedition said goodbye to their colleagues and boarded the Soyuz MS-07, and at 09:16 UTC the spacecraft undocked from the ISS.

The crew of Andrew J. Feustel (expedition commander, USA), Oleg Artemiev (Russia) and Richard R. Arnold (USA) continued to work on the ISS. Already on June 6, the next expedition to the ISS was launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome aboard the Soyuz MS-09 spacecraft, consisting of Russian cosmonaut Sergey Prokopyev (crew commander) and astronauts Alexander Gerst (flight engineer, commander of ISS-57, Germany) and Serena Aunon-Chancellor (flight engineer, USA).
In this flight, Anton Shkaplerov and Alexander Misurkin set a new record for a person in Russian spacesuits in outer space. The previous record (8 hours 7 minutes) was set by Oleg Kotov and Sergey Ryazansky in 2013.
